The Reviewing Process

Eligibility.
We welcome graduate students and junior faculty as reviewers from diverse academic fields. This includes history, medicine, bioscience, social science, public health, law, and other related specialties. No previous reviewing experience is required.

Apply.
Please submit your CV and a brief paragraph explaining your interest to kristina.williams@medicinae.org.

How to review.
From reviewers, we seek a brief commentary on (1) the quality of an article (check for plagiarism, relevancy to HM readers, strengths/weaknesses in argument and style, grammatical mistakes) and (2) a recommendation for rejection, acceptance upon major/minor revision, or acceptance.

Reviewers are also expected to be fair and constructive, striving to improve the quality of a submitted manuscript while maintaining a critical eye for detail and accuracy.

Reviews will be handled promptly. Shorter submissions (Epistola, Opinio, Libri) will be returned to the author in 2-3 weeks, and longer submissions (Tabellae) will be returned in 3-4 weeks. Review guidelines and forms can be downloaded below. Both forms must be completed by each reviewer.

Submit reviews.
Reviews should be sent to editor@medicinae.org with the title of the manuscript in the Subject line and the appropriate forms attached.

Thank you to all of our reviewers for their constructive comments.
